Together We Are

In the past few years, a topic that has gained more and more attention is one focusing on the energy of the Divine Feminine. And for good reason. Our culture has taught us to value the traits of masculine energy so much so that things have been pushed out of balance.

These energies are not tied to gender, but tied to the wholeness that comes from balancing the opposites within us. We all have feminine and masculine energy within us and we need to tap into both to experience balance in our lives. (And remember, balance is not a still point, but the ability to flow back and forth to meet the needs in any given moment.) Masculine energy represents logical and linear thinking, efficiency, and planning which help us to learn, create structure, and achieve set goals. Feminine energy represents intuitive and unstructured flow which allows for new experiences, creative thinking, and connection.

The structure of our culture teaches us to value masculine ways of being over feminine ways of being and when we live our lives this way, we get stuck at one end of the spectrum, losing out on valuable parts of ourselves.

In this imbalance, our achievement-focused culture has also tricked us into seeing each other as competition and believing that to secure all that we desire, we must beat others out; almost as if there are a limited number of seats at the table. This perpetuates a cycle that pulls us away from empathy and collaboration. We compare ourselves to others and to advertised standards, we look for weaknesses and faults, and we forget that we are all humans doing the best we can day to day.

Feminine energy helps us to recognize the strengths in everyone. It is about sharing and leaning on each other to achieve more than we can achieve alone. It is about making sure that everyone is cared for and able to share their gifts with the world from a place of wholeness and well-being. But, don’t be fooled. Feminine energy is also about standing up for human rights and putting a stop to prejudice, power-over, and mistreatment.

In our history, we can see that fixed ways of being and thinking have come to support separation and division, stunting our ability to evolve and move beyong repeating the same cycles over and over. We have been taught a view of “othering” and judging the unfamiliar as bad. This supports our not accepting and even criticizing others when they act in a way that is outside of what has been modeled for us or what we have come to believe is the “right” way of being.

These views create resistance to new ideas and new ways of living our lives. When we simply accept what we have been taught and we fail to question our current ways of being, we close ourselves off to growth and evolution.

So what can we do?

We must remember that we have the strength of both masculine and feminine energy within us. We must recognize habits of judging, criticizing, and comparing. We must orient ourselves to the abundant world that we live in, where there is enough good for everyone and where we can share in each other’s strengths. This can help us to overcome the patterns of fear and lack that are so frequently reinforced.

We must be willing to do the work of connecting to ourselves and our own creative, intuitive nature. We must be brave enough to connect with and support one another. We must value both sides of the energetic coin so that we can experience wholeness and enable thrive both within and around us. We must remember that when we integrate all of the parts of ourselves, we are stronger.

This week, I invite you to notice patterns in your thoughts or words that support criticism, comparison, or judgment. I invite you to soften and get curious about other ways of being. Notice the flow and the routine, the logic and the intuition. I invite you to notice both ends of the spectrum that live within you. I invite you to remember that together, we are stronger.

  1. Great observations>It’s harmful when people are pushed into a “carved in stone”way of behaving & never let themselves be exposed to anything else or any other way of thinking>
